Live Our Guiding Principles with Intention in the New Year
A new year brings renewed opportunities, fresh goals and inspiration to reset our intentions. Many of us think about healthier habits, new routines or personal goals. But what if one of the most meaningful resolutions we could make is a recommitment to how we show up for one another and those we serve?
Last year, we launched our six system Guiding Principles that inform the behaviors and commitments we each make in our roles. As we kick off the new year, we encourage you to make a personal commitment to our Guiding Principles, so they can guide our daily decisions, interactions and impact.
Our Guiding Principles:
- Integrity & Respect: Trust in the integrity of one another and treat all with compassion, dignity and kindness
- Exceptional Quality: Deliver and receive the highest standards of care, outcomes and experiences
- Radical Transformation: Be bold and resilient by reinventing new and innovative ways to improve health
- Meaningful Partnerships: Collaborate internally and externally to deliver world class patient-centered care
- Value Creation: Produce differentiated outcomes that are impactful and sustainable
- Disciplined Execution: Implement a thoughtful plan in an intentional, agile and adaptive manner
These Guiding Principles are the foundation of our culture. Like any resolution, remembering and applying our Guiding Principles requires consistent, intentional habits.
Here are four simple, practical ways to make this commitment stick:
- Set a Weekly Reminder to Focus on One Guiding Principle
Add a recurring event to your calendar: Guiding Principle Reflection. Each week, choose one guiding principle and ask yourself:
- How did I live this guiding principle this week?
- Where did I struggle?
- What’s one small way I can apply it more intentionally next week?
- Make It Visible
Print the guiding principles and pin them near your desk. They are also part of your branded desktop background. When your attention drifts or the day gets busy, those subtle reminders can pull you back to what matters most.
- Bring Them into Your Conversations
Whether in a team huddle or a tough decision point, pause and ask:
- Which Guiding Principle applies here?
- How are we creating value?
- Recognize It When You See It
Living our Guiding Principles should be seen, shared and celebrated. When you notice a colleague demonstrating a Guiding Principle, whether it’s integrity in a difficult moment, collaboration across teams or bold innovation, take a moment to acknowledge it. A few ideas could include:
- Shout outs in team meetings
- Submit story on the WeInspire site
- Short notes that team members can collect
